SEE-THROUGH CAMERAS. From time-to-time manufacturers have displayed models with clear plastic cases showing the intermal construction of the camera. These were generall for display only, not for sale. However some manufactures, especially of film cameras, did sell transparent versions of their cameras. KOCOM
KDC-10 (see Ansco DZ-400 on our 1997 A-D page) - 1997.
Shown
at Comdex Fall 97. 1/3-inch 640 x 480 pixel CCD. F/2.8
lens.
Shutter 1/4 to 1/10,000 second. MSRP $450. Kocom is a Koran manufacturer.
Although both cameras were relatively inexpensive, they are also very
rare, especially when in the original box with the manual still in its
sealed envelope as above. In fact, the KDC-10 we purchased was
the first we have ever seen on eBay since it was releaseded in
1997. This camera is so rare that Dennis van Hall of the
Digital Camera Museum states that he has never seen a Kocom
KDC-10. Our purchase of this camera demonstrates how important it
is for collectors to be familiar with the rarity of various camera
models, even the least expensive. This Kocom KDC-10 appeared on
eBay with a required opening bid of $10. We were able to
get this almost unique camera for that price because no one else bid on
it! We believe we were the first digital camera history web site
to provide a photo and information concerning this camera.

KYOCERA DR-350
(Yashica KC 600) - 1997. This
camera is an example of why folks can become hooked on collecting -
SERENDIPITY. Many of these cameras were sold worldwide as the
Yashica KC-600, but only a few were sold in Japan as the Kyocera
DR-350. The DR-350 is very rare on U.S. eBay and when it
does appear it's usually just the camera by itself in obviously worn
condition. While doing a google search for information on the
DR-350, we clicked on google images and one of the photos that appeared
was of a DR-350 currently for sale on a Japanese only auction
site. Since we had no access to that site, we contacted my wife's
nephew, Joe, who lives in Singapore. By great good luck, he has a
friend, Atsuo, who lives in Japan. Atsuo was able to obtain the
DR-350 from the auction site and we now have it in our
collection. But our good luck did not end there. Much to
our amazement, this rare 1997 camera arrived brand new in its original
box with all of its original contents. As such, it is quite
possibly the only new-in-the-box sample still in existence. Many
thanks to Joe and Atsuo for making an old man very happy. 1/3-inch 640 x 480
pixel CCD. ISO 100. F/4 47mm fixed-focus lens. Shutter 1/8
to 1/1000 second. We believe we were the first digital camera history web site to provide a photo and information concerning this camera.

MultiMediaCard (MMC) - 1997.
A type of a memory card standard that is used to store data among
different compatible portable devices. The first card was co-developed
by Siemens AG and SanDisk in 1997. One of the advantage MMC cards have
over other removable storage devices is that they can be easily plugged
to a computer and digital cameras without necessarily using an adapter
or card reader.

OLYMPUS MAFP-1U/1E Smart Media Floppy Disk Adapter - 1997? The MAFP-1U/1E was manufactured by SmartDisk Corporation as a version of their FlashPath adapters to allow reading of Smart Media cards via the adapter when inserted into a floppy disk drive. The manual has no print date, but it states the adapter is compatible with Windows 3.1 (1992) and Windows 95 (1995). Smart Media came onto the market in 1995. This adapter was included with an Olympus D-320L/C-820L camera of 1997 that we purchased on eBay. It is similar in design to the Sony Memory Stick adapter of 1998/9. The Sony adapter was designed to increase the photo storage capacity of floppies by inserting a Sony Memory Stick into the adapter and then into a camera (Sony Mavica). The manual for the Olympus MAFP-1 provides information for reading a Smart Media card via a floppy disk drive, but does not mention whether or not it could store photos when inserted into Sony floppy disk camera such as the MVC-FD91, etc.
